Popeyes started its journey in the vibrant streets of New Orleans back in 1972 with a single restaurant and a bold vision to bring the soulful taste and welcoming spirit of Louisiana to people everywhere. That’s why we marinate our chicken for at least 12 hours in our signature blend of herbs and spices, hand batter in our kitchens with care, and use a special frying process to cook to crispy, juicy perfection.

Our Journey
From humble beginnings in New Orleans, Popeyes has grown into one of the world’s largest quick service restaurant chains with over 4,000 restaurants around the world.
1972
The story of Popeyes begins in 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Al Copeland, the founder of the company, experimented with traditional recipes from Cajun and Creole cuisine, before founding Popeyes bult on spicy and unique tastes.
2008
The name of the company changes from “Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits” to “Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen”
2017
Restaurant Brands International acquired Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
2019
Popeyes launches the iconic Chicken Sandwich, a viral phenomenon that shattered industry records by selling out a 10-week supply in just 14 days
2026
In 2026, Popeyes opened its first location in Baku, bringing bold Louisiana flavors and our tradition of Serving with Love to Azerbaijan.
